Mathematics Activities
Mathematics is an abstract and absolute science. The young child’s mind is rooted in reality and in the concrete. The child’s mind and body needs careful preparation to attain some maturation in order to fully comprehend and engage with mathematics. Hence, in Montessori, the child is offered mathematics from around the age of 4, after preparing her through practical life, sensorial and several language activities. The emphasis here is for the child to understand the fundamental math concepts and thereby lay a firm foundation for future advanced math learning. The beautifully and accurately designed mathematics materials help the child acquire the abstract math concepts through concrete and hands-on experiences. The goal is to awaken every child’s mathematical mind and start her out on a journey of discovery of the beauty of mathematics.
